Extreme Weather and Climate Change: A Virtual Workshop for NJ Agricultural Technical Service Providers

The New Jersey Climate Change Resource Center and New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station are hosting a workshop intended to expand the capacity of professionals who work with New Jersey growers as those professionals continue to assist growers with adapting to and mitigating for extreme weather and climate change.

Topics will include current and anticipated climate and extreme weather; strategies for managing soil and nutrient runoff in a changing climate; estimating water needs during dry periods; heat tolerance strategies in crop production; strategies for managing extreme heat and air quality changes; soil health for resilience; mitigating climate change; agrivoltaics; and planning and implementation frameworks that will touch upon farm disaster preparedness, long-term adaptation and mitigation plans, and integrating planning into farm business plans.

Workshop partners include the New Jersey Department of Agriculture, New Jersey Farm Bureau, NOFA-NJ, and the Organic and Regenerative Farming Board of New Jersey.

*Technical Service Providers (TSPs) include NJAES Extension Agents and Staff; NJAES Extension Specialists; Soil Conservation District Staff; TSPs from USDA-NRCS-NJ, North Jersey RC&D, NJ Department of Agriculture; and other TSPs who provide consulting services to NJ growers.
