High Tides Caused by Snowstorms Threaten Jersey Shore Towns

JOANNA GAGIS / NJ SPOTLIGHT – High tides during recent storms have led to significant beach erosion in Long Beach Island, Atlantic City, Bayhead, North Wildwood and elsewhere. These storms have chewed up shorelines, swallowed dunes and caused coastal flooding.

To restore New Jersey’s beaches, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers usually dredges sand from the ocean floor and pumps it back onto shore, but not everyone agrees with that strategy. Correspondent Joanna Gagis reports on the problem and the longtime disagreements over how to fix it …
