TRANSFORMATIVE CLIMATE COMMUNITIES
Raritan Bay Area YMCA Is Building Hope and Getting One Step Closer to Passive House Project
The Raritan Bay Area YMCA and Joint Venture partner Coming Home of Middlesex County, is making significant progress on its Passive House project. Providing sustainable, affordable housing opportunities for homeless individuals and families is a cornerstone of our mission to end homelessness in our community.
Construction continues to advance, guided by the skilled hands of our expert team. Thank you to architect Kurt Ludwig & Associates, builder Brown & Glynn, and energy consultant ReVireo for ensuring every aspect of this project aligns with the highest standards of energy efficiency and sustainability.
Currently, we’re in the crucial interior finishing stages, including sheetrock installation and the construction of the kitchens and bathrooms. What truly sets this project apart are the innovative passive-house features designed to make the home as energy efficient as possible. High-performance windows and superior insulation minimize energy loss, strategically placed awnings reduce heat from the sun, and the basement has been designed deeper to take advantage of the ground’s constant temperature, further reducing energy consumption.
These thoughtful capital investments today will lead to lower operating costs for residents, giving them more financial freedom and stability. As we look ahead, we are actively identifying potential residents through Middlesex County’s coordinated assessment, ensuring that those most in need will have access to this transformative housing. Together, we are building not just a house but a beacon of hope for a sustainable future.
