New Jersey Schools Are Teaching About Climate Change
THE BRIAN LEHRER SHOW / WNYC – New Jersey was the first state in the country to mandate public schools teach climate change. Lauren Madden, professor of elementary science education and coordinator of the environmental sustainability education minor at The College of New Jersey, and Anya Kamenetz, longtime former NPR education reporter, advisor to the Aspen Institute and the author of several books including most recently The Stolen Year: How Covid Changed Children’s Lives, And Where We Go Now (Public Affairs, 2022), talk about how it’s going so far, what is in the curriculum and how this has become another front in the school culture wars.
