This project investigated flood buyouts in New Jersey through collaborative research focusing on local experiences with buyouts, equity indicators related to successful buyouts, and buyouts’ impact on property value. The project was funded by a grant from the NJ Department of Environmental Protection to help inform the Blue Acres program. This report provides insight into current buyout practices and impacts in New Jersey, including successes, challenges, and the barriers or facilitators to better coordination, planning, and outreach to accomplish buyout goals.
