TRANSFORMATIVE CLIMATE COMMUNITIES
Empowering Communities: Bridgeton’s E-Bike Pilot Program
Cassandra Avila / Gateway CAP
We are excited to provide an update on the progress of our electric bicycle (e-bike) incentive pilot program, which aims to connect residents of Bridgeton’s Southeast Gateway neighborhood who lack consistent and accessible transportation to be able to reach job opportunities. While supporting the economic and social health of the community, this initiative provides environmental benefits by reducing greenhouse gas emissions from non-sustainable modes of transportation. As we conclude our first month, we are pleased to share our achievements, impact, and vision for the future.
Collaboration is critical to our program’s success. Over the past month, the Rutgers University and Southeast Gateway teams have established partnerships that form the foundation of our E-Bike pilot program. We are thankful for the support of local organizations, including Mojo Bikes, our trusted bike vendor and repair shop.
Our efforts to engage the community have been met with enthusiasm. The announcement of the e-bike program at the Southeast Gateway’s June Job and Resource Fair generated significant interest. Attendees had the opportunity to experience an E-Bike firsthand, complete applications, and have their questions answered. We distributed around 25 applications on that day alone. To increase outreach efforts, the Rutgers and Southeast Gateway teams ensured that all necessary documentation was prepared and translated into Spanish to accommodate our Spanish-speaking population.
We take immense pride in witnessing the positive impact of our program in its initial stages. The e-bike initiative addresses transportation challenges, promotes physical and mental well-being among participants, and creates a more inclusive and vibrant community by broadening horizons and providing access to new opportunities. We remain committed to supporting the residents of Bridgeton and fostering a bike-friendly city. Stay tuned for further updates as we continue empowering our community one pedal at a time.
